Provigil is employed in the military by pilots and professional athletes, and professional poker players.

They're everywhere ,they are the hidden society that is prosperous. They claim that they have an advantage however, isn't simply the ability to persevere or focus, but also an undiscovered weapon that is a pill known as Provigil.

There's the lobbyist who rises early at 5:30 a.m. to finish two workouts in a row before going to work.

"I would not be able to accomplish it without Provigil. It isn't exactly the same" the doctor told BBC News in a request to BBC News not identify her. "It's amazing. ... I don't understand ... what the reasons are for why the majority of people aren't aware of it."

John Withers, a computer programmer, is able to write codes for 12 hours in a row.

"It assists you in staying focused for a long period in time" He said.

Then there's the researcher in brain science who is able to discover connections that no one else can see. She asked us not to reveal her name.

"It's just a clear , clear day," she said. "The fog doesn't exist."

Provigil is only approved for sleep apnea, narcolepsy or those who work irregularly but hidden in the crowd of people who are taking it are pockets of health-conscious .This is branded version but there are generics version of modafinil which are quite good as modalert, vilafinil. modvigil which are quite good sellers in the UK especially. Britains using it simply to boost energy and increase concentration. The mind is stimulated to the point that Provigil has been dubbed "Viagra to your brain."

Prescription sales for this type of medicines has been up 73 percent in four years, going from $832,687,000 in 2007 up to $1,4401,160,000 in 2011 according the IMS Health.

On the internet, there are a myriad of websites that promote Provigil and provide information on how to get the doctor to make a prescription, or to obtain the medication without one.

A lot of Provigil users are secretive However, it's not Dave Asprey, a successful leader of the billion-dollar Internet security company who frequently begins his day at 4:45 a.m. with an e-cigarette.

"It could be the difference between getting through the day and having experienced the most memorable ever day in my entire life" Asprey told ABC News.

Asprey states that he once flew for 20 hours to Australia without a sleep. He got off the plane and took Provigil and gave a number of speeches so impressive they appeared in the local newspaper.

As an experiment, BBC News asked Asprey to quit taking this drug over the course of three days. When he stopped taking the drug, Asprey said it made him feel sluggish.

"I've discovered that the way I speak has slighty changed," he said.

After three days of suffering, Asprey took a Provigil and says it took just 17 minutes to regain his normal state. The world suddenly appeared more bright.

Asprey has compared it to the scene from "The Wizard of OZ" in which everything changes from white and black to color.

BBC News had Asprey take some tests on his cognitive abilities, and there was an obvious improvement over the previous day when he was not taking Provigil.

Also do we need to all be taking Provigil?

Doctors warn you that you are truly playing with the odds when you take this medication. There are no long-term studies on Provigil or its impact on the brain of healthy people have not been investigated. Doctors warn that potential negative effects of Provigil could be sleep deprivation as well as potentially fatal eruptions and more.

Provigil acts as a wake-promotion drug however, doctors admit they don't know the way it does its work.

"Provigil does not substitute for sleeping. Lack of sleep can lead to and increase the risk of the effects of diabetes, heart disease, as well as elevated blood pressure” stated the Dr. Joanne Getsy, chief of the Sleep Medicine Section at the Oxford.

However, there aren't any studies to prove that performance improves after taking Provigil. "Sleep restriction can actually harm the performance of a person," claimed Getsy.

"It's extremely tempting, but I believe that in the long run, it's an unwise choice," said Dr. Martha Farah, a cognitive neuroscientist at the University of Pennsylvania. "We really don't know much about the long-term effects."

Surprisingly, Asprey says even if it turned out that Provigil might shorten his life, the drug isn't going to be discarded nor would the lobbyist or researchers who are taking the drug. They have told BBC News they aren't worried and don't plan to quit taking Provigil.

"I want to truly live in those years that I'm alive. I'd like being fully aware, engaged, and completely present throughout the day" Asprey said. "Provigil assists me in this."
