Class days: Mondays(study sessions wright after your class) and Tuesdays From 11:00 am-12:30 pm. 

Office hours: Monday through Thursday from 1:00 pm-2:30 pm At the Language Acquisition Center (B354). 

ESL 201 Supplemental Course description:.

This is a free course that is designed to help you catch up in class in general, help you understand your assignments, improve your writing and reading skills, introduce you to what will be required in your 201 writing class weekly ahead of time, answer individual questions, help you with your essays, improve your oral skills, help you organize your time, help you interact with your class mates, and most importantly work according to your individual pace.

In order to be able to attend my ESL 201 Supplemental Course you need to be enrolled in ESL 201 writing class, and you also need to be enrolled in the non-credit lab co-requisite for ESL 201, which is ESL 201L.

ESL 201L is a non-credit unit lab session, it is the mandatory co-req to ESL 201.  In the lab, you can meet either with me or with other ESL instructors to review ESL 201 lessons, get extra help on homework, look over your essays, and receive help with grammar.  You will also use the grammar computer software to help you acquire those tricky grammatical mistakes you make while writing. To receive full points for 4% of your grade for ESL 201, you will need to complete 24 hours in the lab. If you attend my supplemental course, its time will be subtracted from those 24 hours. 

Students' Learning Outcome:

1- Students will be able to understand how to organize their time wisely in the class and out  without being stressed out.

2- Students will be able to understand a given prompts, assignments, and be prepared for all types of quizzes and in class presentations.

3- Students who struggle with technology will be able to break the ice and feel confident about their required technology skills for their writing class.

4- Students will be able to understand the professor's notes and comments on their assignment.

5- Students will be able to build positive relationships with their supplemental instructors, class mates, and will have a positive experience at the LAC in general.

6- Students will feel more confident in class and will be introduced to many different sources of help.

7- Most importantly, students will always feel that they are not alone and they will always feel free to ask any type of question  without being embarrassed.

1- Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg.

2- A note book.

3- Access to a computer at home.

Guests:

Even though this is not an official class, gusts can not attend unless they are enrolled in a writing course at Irvine Valley Collage with the 24 hour  co-requisite course at the Language Acquisition Center.

Attendance:

Since this course is meant to help and not to add pressure to your life, attending it is very flexible. Attendance does not have to be continuous. Students can decide to attend a certain session that they feel might be useful to them. A student does not have to attend a hole session, students can walk in and out according to their schedule as long as walking in and out does not disturb or interrupt the class. Although attending this class is optional, if a student attends twice they will have the chance to earn extra credit in the original writing class. 

Keep in mind that the more you attend, the more beneficial the course is going to be since the goal of the course is to match students's personal needs according to their pace and requirements.

Grading:

The grades in this course will not influence or be added to your writing course. Instead, they will act like a tool to make you have an idea of where you are at before taking an official quiz, graded assignment, or test.
